Enhancing fatigue life of cylinder-crown integrated structure by optimizing dimension

摘要:

Cylinder-crown integrated hydraulic press (CCIHP) is a new press structure. The hemispherical hydraulic cylinder also functions as a main portion of crown, which has lower weight and higher section modulus compared with the conventional hydraulic cylinder and press crown. As a result, the material strength capacity is better utilized. During the engineering design of cylinder-crown integrated structure, in order to increase the fatigue life, structural optimization on the basis of the adaptive macro genetic algorithms (AMGA) is first conducted to both reduce weight and decrease peak stress. It is shown that the magnitude of the maximum principal stress is decreased by 28.6%, and simultaneously the total weight is reduced by 4.4%. Subsequently, strain-controlled fatigue test is carried out, and the stress-strain hysteresis loops and cyclic hardening curve are obtained. Based on linear fit, the fatigue properties are calculated and used for the fatigue life prediction. It is shown that the predicted fatigue life is significantly increased from 157000 to 1070000 cycles after structural optimization. Finally, according to the optimization design, a 6300 kN CCIHP has been manufactured, and priority application has been also suggested.

Concepts and implementation of strain-based criteria in design codes for steel structures

摘要: A uniaxial tension test is commonly used to determine the mechanical properties of steel, but it has no meaning for the response of the material in a structure. The test was developed as a consensus solution by producers, fabricators, designers and code writers, to have a standard by which similar materials could be compared to a common base. It does not represent the actual behavior of the steel in a structure, and was never intended to do so. To study the true behavior of the structure and how the material responds it would be better to determine the strains and deformations that will take place during actual service condition. Such characteristics reflect the real behavior, whether in the elastic or inelastic range. If stresses or forces are needed, these are easily determined by the value of the strain and the relevant material modulus, along with the type of cross section, whether elastic or inelastic. The paper addresses the properties of a range of structural steels, how these are incorporated into design standards and how the standards define deformation characteristics and demands for bolted and welded connections.

A new method of studying collapsibility of loess

摘要: A new triaxial testing system that could control suction in wetting-induced collapsible tests was successfully developed to study the suction effects on wetting-induced collapsible deformation. The pedestal of the triaxial cell was made up of two parts, and the equipment not only could control suction but also could make water accessible to soil. A pressure/volume-controlled equipment was combined with the triaxial system to measure the water volume absorbed by samples accurately and to add pressure on water to filtrate into the sample. The apparatus could measure volume change precisely and keep the deviator stress unvaried, as well as measure the volume of water filtrating into the samples exactly. A triaxial collapsible testing procedure was described using the new apparatus for undisturbed collapsible loess with controlled suction. Furthermore, a series of double triaxial collapsible tests were conducted under different suctions and the same net cell pressure, and tests under different net cell pressures and the same suction were also done. It was indicated that the collapsible deformation increased with the increasing suction, and the effect of the net cell pressure on collapsible deformation was remarkable. The new triaxial apparatus was a useful facility to study the collapsible behavior of loess.

高速公路钢波纹管涵洞工程应用及其应变光测技术研究

摘要:

主要介绍了钢波纹管涵洞在南京长江第四大桥北接线高速公路路基工程中的首次应用。现场实际应用结果表明,钢波纹管涵洞具有良好的路用结构适应性,施工简便,工期短;现场应变光测测试结果表明,在软土地基路段修筑钢波纹管涵洞充分利用了钢材的延展性,能够解决不均匀沉降问题。

聚能效应在岩石定向断裂控制爆破中的研究

摘要:

针对目前石材开采面临的问题,对采用聚能药包岩石定向断裂控制爆破技术时的裂缝(纹)起裂和扩展的机理进行了探讨,同时对该法的爆破参数进行了设计;实验室和现场试验验证结果表明,由聚能射流形成的切缝有明显的定向作用,使爆生气体的能量沿预定方向集中,裂纹的定向断裂控制效果良好,表明该法是一种比较理想的断裂控制爆破技术;研究成果对相关理论研究和现场应用均有一定的指导意义,该法将会成为岩石定向断裂控制爆破发展的一个方向。

DX桩承载特性的模型试验研究

摘要:

DX桩是近年兴起的新型变截面桩型,其独有的承力盘很好地改善了沉降问题。通过室内小比尺模型试验,得出DX桩承载力及沉降特性的相关规律,为DX桩承载机理的研究提供进一步的试验支持。试验主要采用应变片测量桩身受力情况,桩顶设置百分表测量沉降情况,加载装置采用砝码以及杠杆分级加载。试验主要为与直孔桩对比试验以及DX桩平行试验。试验结果证明DX桩在承载力和沉降方面都优于直孔桩;上盘承载力大于下盘,随桩顶荷载增大,下盘承载所占比重有所提高。

Experimental investigation of fatigue behavior of spur gear in altered tooth-sum gearing

This paper deals with the contact stress, power loss, and pitting of spur gear tooth in altered tooth-sum gearing for a tooth-sum of 100 teeth when altered by±4% tooth-sum. Analytical and experimental methods were performed to investigate and compare the altered tooth-sum gearing against the standard tooth-sum gearing. The experiments were performed using a power recirculating type test rig. The tooth loads for the experimental investigations were determined considering the surface durability of gears. A clear picture of the surface damage was obtained using a scanning electron microphotograph. The negative alteration in the tooth-sum performed better than the positive alteration in a tooth-sum operating between specified center distances.

LCF behavior and life prediction method of a single crystal nickel-based superalloy at high temperature

Low cycle fatigue tests were conducted on the single crystal nickel-based superalloy, DD6, with different crystallographic orientations (i.e., [001], [011], and [111]) and strain dwell types (i.e., tensile, compressive, and balanced types) at a certain high temperature. Given the material anisotropy and mean stress, both orientation factor and stress range were introduced to the Smith, Watson, and Topper (SWT) stress model to predict the fatigue life. Experimental results indicated that the fatigue properties of DD6 depend on both crystallographic orientation and loading types. The fatigue life of the tensile, compressive, and balanced strain dwell tests are shorter than those of continuous cycling tests without strain dwell because of the important creep effect. The predicted results of the proposed modified SWT stress method agree well with the experimental data.

Synthesis and characterization of biocompatible polyurethanes for controlled release of hydrophobic and

摘要: Design of biocompatible and biodegradable polymer systems for sustained and controlled release of bioactive agents is critical for numerous biomedical applications. Here, we designed, synthesized, and characterized four polyurethane carrier systems for controlled release of model drugs. These polyurethanes are biocompatible and biodegradable because they consist of biocompatible poly(ethylene glycol) or poly(caprolactone diol) as soft segment, linear aliphatic hexamethylene diisocyanate or symmetrical aliphatic cyclic dicyclohexylmethane-4,4′-diisocyanate as hard segment, and biodegradable urethane linkage. They were characterized with Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, atomic force microscope, and differential scanning calorimetry, whereas their degradation behaviors were investigated in both phosphate buffered saline and enzymatic solutions. By tuning polyurethane segments, different release profiles of hydrophobic and hydrophilic drugs were obtained in the absence and presence of enzymes. Such difference in release profiles was attributed to a complex interplay among structure, hydrophobicity, and degradability of polyurethanes, the size and hydrophobicity of drugs, and drug-polymer interactions. Different drug-polyurethane combinations modulated the distribution and location of the drugs in polymer matrix, thus inducing different drug release mechanisms. Our results highlight an important role of segmental structure of the polyurethane as an engineering tool to control drug release.

Performance of soft-hard-soft (SHS) cement based composite subjected to blast loading with consideration of interface properties

摘要: This paper presents a combined experimental and numerical study on the damage and performance of a soft-hard-soft (SHS) multi-layer cement based composite subjected to blast loading which can be used for protective structures and infrastructures to resist extreme loadings, and the composite consists of three layers of construction materials including asphalt concrete (AC) on the top, high strength concrete (HSC) in the middle, and engineered cementitious composites (ECC) at the bottom. To better characterize the material properties under dynamic loading, interface properties of the composite were investigated through direct shear test and also used to validate the interface model. Strain rate effects of the asphalt concrete were also studied and both compressive and tensile dynamic increase factor (DIF) curves were improved based on split Hopkinson pressure bar (SHPB) test. A full-scale field blast test investigated the blast behavior of the composite materials. The numerical model was established by taking into account the strain rate effect of all concrete materials. Furthermore, the interface properties were also considered into the model. The numerical simulation using nonlinear finite element software LS-DYNA agrees closely with the experimental data. Both the numerical and field blast test indicated that the SHS composite exhibited high resistance against blast loading.

A dimensional analysis on asphalt binder fracture and fatigue cracking

摘要: Fracture and fatigue cracking in asphalt binder are two of most serious problems for pavement engineers. In this paper, we present a new comprehensive approach, which consists both of dimensional analysis using Buckingham Theorem and -integral analysis based on classic fracture mechanics, to evaluate the fracture and fatigue on asphalt binder. It is discovered that the dimensional analysis could provide a new perspective to analyze the asphalt fracture and fatigue cracking mechanism.

岩溶隧道衬砌水压力分布规律研究

长期以来隧道衬砌水压力问题,一直是人们争论的焦点。依托宜万铁路岩溶隧道工程,对不同防排水方式(即全封堵、堵排结合及排放方式)的隧道衬砌水压力分布规律进行研究,研究方法主要采用模型试验及现场测试方法,模型试验的比例尺为1∶16,试验台架可同时施加土压和水压。通过模型试验得出水压力分布规律:全封堵条件下衬砌背后水压力不能折减,注浆圈也不能有效减小水压力;隧道内排水后衬砌背后水压力明显减小,并随着排水量的增加,水压力基本成直线下降;相同排水量时,注浆效果越好,衬砌背后水压力减小越明显;隧道采用全排导方式时,衬砌仍承受一定的水压。由模型试验得出的水压分布规律的部分结论,在现场水压力测试中得到了验证。

Hierarchical approach for fatigue cracking performance evaluation in asphalt pavements

摘要: In this paper, a hierarchical approach is proposed for the evaluation of fatigue cracking in asphalt concrete pavements considering three different levels of complexities in the representation of the material behaviour, design parameters characterization and the determination of the pavement response as well as damage computation. Based on the developed hierarchical approach, three damage computation levels are identified and proposed. The levels of fatigue damage analysis provides pavement engineers a variety of tools that can be used for pavement analysis depending on the availability of data, required level of prediction accuracy and computational power at their disposal. The hierarchical approach also provides a systematic approach for the understanding of the fundamental mechanisms of pavement deterioration, the elimination of the empiricism associated with pavement design today and the transition towards the use of sound principles of mechanics in pavement analysis and design.
